mind

For those who don’t know, Mind is a mental health charity that was established in 1946.  They aim to provide advice and support to anyone that is experiencing mental illness. They campaign to raise awareness, improve mental health services and help promote understanding.

As Mind is a charity, they rely on donations. This is why what Sheffield band The Wired are doing with their upcoming single, A Light Went Out, is so important. All sales of this track will be donated to Mind. When speaking to frontman Caleb Smelt, who has experienced mental health problems since he was a child, I asked, out of all the mental health charities, why Mind? “Mind have helped me out during difficult times. They do loads for mental health and help raise awareness. They need as much help as possible. And if I can do my bit then that’s great!”

When discussing why it is so essential that musicians start openly talking about mental health, Caleb said: “As a musician, people can connect with lyrics and music. Making relatable music is always my aim. I hope people who feel helpless and alone find comfort in this track. Music can help people escape from reality, and sometimes escaping is the best way out.”

The song is off their upcoming debut EP, which will be released on 23rd March, and we’ve got the track here for you to check out! The Wired are also going on tour next month so if they’re coming near you, be sure to get your tickets from See Tickets now! They’re coming to:
